Here are some images from the July field trip and lab work on the 'Wood : Termite : Fungi Project' a project led by George Washington University. The team, from all over the world was in Cairns to continue their 4 year research project that is exploring carbon fluxes in the Wet Tropics: and whilst here also came up with 'Lets Rot' as the project's creative title. As artist-in-resident on this project it was so fascinating to accompany the team both in the field and in the lab - watching their processes, and talking to each member of the team in order to understand, and then creatively respond to the project. I will be creating a series of new artworks over the next few years that explore the carbon cycle, climate change, decomposition and waste with respect to this project.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Super excited to have had my work 'Adaptation/Mutation' chosen to become part of the Moreton Bay Regional Council Art Collection. This work explores imagined ecological adaptations in the age of the Anthropocene; juxtaposing futurist ideas of natural evolution with human imposed organic-hybrid modifications to facilitate species survival beyond the current epoch.
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The work was inspired by a project that explored dialogues between academic research and the creative imagination with Associate Professor Lisa Chandler, University of Sunshine Coast, and Nigel Fechner, Senior Botanist, Queensland Herbarium. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I am really excited to announce that I have been selected as the artist <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">for <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">the Queensland State Archives Creative in Residence (QSA CiR) program <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">for 2019. This program will allow me to undertake research on a project that explores climate change and conservation in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, with respect to both historical and current data: coupling the QSA CiR within the framework of a concurrent environmental conservation project.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This residency will allow me to add a rich layer of political and social data to real-time data gathered during my time as artist-in-residence on a current environmental rescue mission in the mountaintops of the Wet Tropics: The 'Mountain Flora' project, a five-year collaborative mission with Professor Darren Crayn, Director, Australian Tropical Herbarium and Dr Sandra Abell, Principal Scientist, Wet Tropics Management Authority, will see the collection , propagation and safeguarding of up to 20 species of climate threatened tropical mountaitop flora.

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">As an artist I would like to voice the plight of these vulnerable flora species with reference to historical socio-political data gathered from the archive togethre with current policy and projects that surround world heritage conservation and climate change; using these records as a catalyst to create new works that compare past, present and possible predicted futures for these intrinsic players within our ecosystem.
Another great Art/Science workshop presented on the weekend by myself and Ecologist Dr Sapphire McMullen-Fisher.
We then headed back to the studio to do some art/science cross-over activities before launching into a printmaking activity.
