New Work from Beyond the Seed Project

Plectranthus chorus explores continuity and harmony in nature; using microscopic flora explorations as a muse.

We often look to nature to solve complex human problems; this work reflects upon the intrinsic interconnectedness between human and nature and the need to prevent species loss.

Escaping the extinction vortex - Cafe Scientific

Whether it's because of natural competition; climatic events or human activity some species appear to be trapped in an extinction vortex. How do we know whether a species is super abundant or on the edge of extinction? What can we do if it is teetering on the edge?  What does it matter anyway?

Join four very different speakers at Queensland Herbarium's first Cafe Scientifique on a journey of discovery and action - to escape the extinction vortex....

Artist - Donna Davis: An installation and presentation " A world without plants"
Queensland Herbarium Director - Gordon Guymer: What's on the edge of the vortex?
Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha Botanist - Jason Halford: Buying time from the vortex:
Ipswich City Council Environment Officer - Ellie Pobjoy: Escape from the vortex

Where: Queensland Herbarium, Brisbane Botanic Gardens Mt Coot-tha
When:  Thursday 21 August 2014 @ Queensland Herbarium - 6:30-9:30pm
